All training is provided FREE of charge. The only requirment to drive is a REGULAR drivers license. NOTHING else is required.
Active Membership - An active member takes regular ambulance call, attends meetings, has the right to vote and may hold office.
Service Membership - A service member provides a service to the organization without the requirement of taking ambulance call.
South Jefferson Rescue Squad, Inc. has added a Junior Member program!! If you are between the ages of 16 and 18 you can now join and learn about emergency medical services. The Standard Operating Procedure and application can be found at the bottom of this page.

Service Member – Interested in volunteering but don’t want to provide “hands on” care – no problem! We are always looking for volunteers to assist with special events.
Junior Member – If you are between the ages of 16 and 18 you can join and learn about emergency medical services!
Driver – Must be 21 years of age with a good driving history. All drivers are required to take a squad sponsored “Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator” course and are expected to operate the ambulance in a safe and responsible manner. The driver should be able to assist with equipment and patient handling.
Attendant – Must be 18 years of age and assist the trained medical personnel with retrieving equipment and patient handling. Many members join at this level and are then sponsored to obtain higher levels of training.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – A New York State Certified EMT is trained to handle medical emergencies and treat life threats. The EMT is training to identify and treat immediate life threats which includes: CPR, automatic defibrillation, hemorrhage control and medication administration.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) – A New York State Certified AEMT increases the skills obtained at the EMT level by including intubation, intravenous fluids and additional medication administration.
Critical Care Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-CC) – A New York State Certified EMT-CC increases the skills obtained at the EMT level by including intubation, intravenous fluids, medication administration and cardiac monitoring.
Paramedic (EMT-P) – A New York State Certified EMT-P is the highest level of emergency medical services training in New York State and encompasses all the above listed skills with an emphasis on pediatric emergency care.

The purpose of this program is to provide EMT, Advanced EMT, EMT-‐CC and EMT--P candidates an avenue to fulfill the
obligations set forth in their curriculum, also to allow the citizens the opportunity to experience the emergency medical services we provide. |
